Mom-dude

Salem had her best friend Lola over last night to play. I didn't tell her that Lola was coming as I didn't want to get her all worked up in case of the off-chance Lola couldn't come. When she arrived Salem was jumping up and down, screaming "She's here!! she's here!!"

The jumping, squealing and all-purpose craziness didn't stop for a while either. Chuk at his breaking point turned to her and said "Salem! Stop this, quit screaming and carrying on!" With this, little four year old Lola turned to Chuk, batted her eyes and simply stated, "It's okay, Chuk...she's just really excited!"

Later, I heard a raucous coming from the bathroom. They were both stripped down to their underpants. Salem was literally climbing up the walls while Lola was on the potty. I asked the girls to quit squealing and graciously asked Salem to come down off the side of the bathtub. As I was talking to her, I noticed that Salem's underpants were on sideways, with the leg-hole around her waist and the waistband around one of her legs.

"Salem?" I asked "have those underpants been on you like this all day?" She looked down and said "....yes they have." "Isn't that uncomfortable?" Before she could answer, Lola turned to me me with that same matter-of-fact tone she used on Chuk earlier and stated, "Well Ashley? Don't you know that Salem is really teeny-tiny? She can't tell which way to put on her panties and it's not bugging her either. It's okay." Before I could respond, Salem cocked her head and said, "Yeah...mom-dude!"

There's nothing like a couple of four year olds givin' you the ol' 'what-for."

I Wear My Sunglasses (at night) Under Water...

One of my buddies went on a vacation in FL. She took a bunch of really hilarious photos of her and her boyfriend underwater. But this one just stood out as hella cool. I bet her boyfriend snapped it, as he's a photographer. Am I right, Alison?

Flip Flopery

They have a policy at school:

NO COWBOY BOOTS
NO FLIP FLOPS

The items listed above have proven to be unwise on the playground. I can understand the flip flops policy; I see it now, a kid getting beamed in the skull by a run-a-way flip flop flying off of the foot as they sail through the air on a swing. But cowboy boots? Whaas up wit dat?

Anywhoosels, as I stated before in my previous posts, I got the kid a new pair of gorgeous sparkly pink flip flops this past weekend.

She begged her daddy to wear them to school:
"Daddy, I want to wear my new pink flip flops to school!!"
him: "No hun, they are not allowed at school on the playground. You have to wear something else."
her: "But leah wears hers to school!"
him: "I don't think so babe."

As Chuk pulled into school, Salem scanned the crowd of lil' kids and whipped her little blonde head around to face her dad.
"Dad! See!" she said as she narrowed her eyes.
"Leah has on her flip flops! Tomorrow, I'm wearing mine!"

Giant Robot III

As I've said before, Salem and chuk both have terrible nightmares. Her nightmares are mostly comprised of robots or spiders. Attack of the Robot

Chuk got back in town from his fishing trip last night, he had a blast with his buddies, he needed it. Salem was so excited to see him and she was such a good girl while he was gone, I was so happy and proud of her. So much so, that I took her shopping to get her a special treat for being the good girl that she was. We went to Ross, my favorite place for low-priced kid's clothes. We spotted a pair of pink sparkle flip-flops that she just couldn't live without. Then we ran across a cute little dress with multicolored hearts and big pink buttons. Haute-kid-couture! Look out world. We picked up a "Top Model" Barbie too. She had the best day ever!

We put her to bed last night and chilled out. A little while later, she was having a bad dream and Chuk went in to soothe her back to sleep. When he came back downstairs, he gave me the details of her dream, I'll write it as if she's speaking:

"I was wearing my new dress, with the hearts on it, and my new pink-sparkle flip-flops that mommy got me. A giant robot came and picked me up with its giant claw. The robot opened it's claw and I fell!!" and then she finished the last detail with a coy little smile...."But Williiiiaaam caught me."

Rock and Roll Bikini

The grandparents took Salem last night for an overnight. I hung out with my dad's fiance, we had a great time while Chuk is out of town on a fishing trip. This morning, i got an email from Gramma updating me on Salem's latest conversations with her:

"Gramma am I talented? Madeline says she is talented because she can sing and dance, she says I'm talented like a doctor".

"Mommy got a new bra and panties. Now she's ready to rock and roll!"

Just to be clear, it wasn't a new bra and panties. It was a bathing suit. While she and I were in the dressing room at the store trying it on, she was telling me how much she enjoyed my choice:

"Oh mommy! I love that bathing suit! It's very cute, you look very cute mommy."

The girls in the other dressing rooms were rolling on the floor laughing at how cute she was. Hilarious.

YMCA

The kid used to hate to go the playroom where I work out. It always brought much drama; she would cry and carry-on, forcing the care-giver to come find me and rescue the staff from the torture. I stopped bringing Salem with me to my workouts.

I hadn't been to the gym in a few days a while back and Salem didn't have school. I told her that she was going to a party at the Y, in order for her to be excited about it. She did okay during my workout, but assured me as I picked her up that there was absolutely no party going on.

me: "No party? It looked like a party! There were lots of little kids having fun and everything..."
her: "It wasn't a party, mom. There wasn't even any cake!"

I ended up bringing her back to the Y a little later. After my workout she told me that she had a really good time and wanted to come back. Wow! Yesterday morning, she specifically asked to go play while I worked out...huh! So, I brought her with me. When i picked her up, the kids were all outside on the playground. She yelled to me that she was coming and on her way out, a little boy stopped her to give her hug goodbye! She giggled and hugged him back.

me: "Who's that little boy?"
her: "Wiiiiiliaaam."

me: "He seems nice, seems like he likes you, huh?"
her: "I hope so!"

What a flirt. No wonder she likes going to the Y now.

Pop!

Salem had an event at school, a 'Spring Sing' last week. The teachers sent a note home asking the parents to send the kids to school wearing dress clothes for the sing. Chuk and I put Salem in her favorite dress and I put her hair in a cute little bow. She was so excited to go to school looking so sharp, it was adorable. When i figure out how to post videos on here, I'll hook you up with a cute little movie of the sing

On the way to school, she turned to Chuk and said "Daddy, my friends are going to be so impressed by how beautiful I look today!"
Beaming with pride, she stared off into the distance, chin held high and stated in the most happiest of little girl voices, "When I get there, I'll jump out of the car and say Pop! ...It's me!!"
